2003 model year
Robert has driven this Accord as a rideshare and courier vehicle since 2014. He logs 35,000–40,000 miles per year. The J30 V6 had one transmission replacement at 380,000 miles — the only major repair in 521,000 miles of service.
Known Issues
We don't sugarcoat. Here's what to watch for — and what to fix before it becomes a problem.
Automatic Transmission Failure (V6 Models)
The 5-speed auto in 2003–2007 V6 Accords has a documented failure pattern, especially in hot climates with lots of stop-and-go. Honda issued extended warranty coverage. Robert's failed at 380k — impressive by any measure, but know it's a watch item.
Valve Adjustment (Every 30k on Pre-2004)
The J30 has mechanical valves that need periodic adjustment. Skipping this leads to burnt valves and compression loss. It's cheap maintenance that protects a very expensive engine.
